Scott, Kyle, and Barry are back with another episode of 3GT! This week, in light of recent national news, the gents discuss the sobering topic of executions. How should Christians approach such grave and formidable events while living in this world?
Kyle provides listeners with a definition of theology and states the primary aim of Three Guys Theologizing. After some introductory remarks, the gents turn to discuss the Fort Hood shooting carried out by Nidal Hasan in 2009. Given the recent signing of Hasan’s death warrant by the President of the United States, the guys provide biblical and theological justification for capital punishment. Barry explains the connection between excommunication (from the church) and capital punishment carried out by the civil magistrate. Kyle touches on God’s love and capital punishment, specifically addressing how the two things are not in conflict. Scott speaks about how capital punishment actively restrains societal evil. Having laid this groundwork, the guys think biblically about “public executions,” followed by an exchange which frames executions as incredibly unique opportunities for evangelizing the condemned (with an example from William Perkins). Finally, the hosts touch on “livestreaming” executions with a last word on the Christian’s liberty of conscience. Email 3gt.xyz@gmail.com with your questions and comments!
