Two guys theologize this week on the topic of biblical leadership in the pastorate. Join Kyle and Dr. John Currie (WTS) as they discuss his new book, The Pastor as Leader: Principles and Practices for Connecting Preaching and Leadership.
Kyle shares the impact of this particular book at his 12-year mark in the pastorate. John speaks about his target audience and what motivated him to write on leadership, focusing on what sets his approach apart in a seemingly “saturated” market. He covers his own experience, which led him to understand the close tie between preaching and leadership (a tie that is sadly absent among many leaders in the church). The guys discuss the exegetical and theological relationship between preaching and leadership, zeroing in on the means of grace as Christ’s appointed vehicle for the inauguration and extension of his kingdom in the world. John gives encouragement to pastors who find themselves discouraged when “reality” falls short of the “ideal”. Kyle and John discuss the sanctified, servant, and stalwart leader, and how his conduct must leave an impression of Christ. John helps the listeners understand real “servant leadership” vs. a “feckless leadership”, anchoring the perfect example of a servant leader in the Messiah. Kyle asks John how to engage the entire church toward action on this topic. John shares a final word of encouragement for all believers.
