As a child, the parishioner, like many in the evangelical world, went to the altar again…and again…and again. Somehow during those years, it seemed like salvation never stuck. So he raises the question, “Can a believer lose his salvation?” In response, the pastor and professor launch into a discussion with him on the perseverance of the saints.
Many matters surrouding the doctrine of perseverance are then brought to bear on this topic. The purpose of Biblical warnings. The definition of eternal life. The sufficiency of Christ’s work. The Spirit’s role in salvation. The promises of Scripture. The character of God. The practical comfort this doctrine is to believers.
Here’s an episode to encourage you! Don’t keep going forward in endless altar calls. Rather, rest in what the Lord has provided!
